An Gorta Mor Memorial

An Gorta Mor translates from Gaelic to The Great Hunger.   Michigan is blessed to have a memorial of the Irish Famine located on US 12 in the Irish Hills at the St. Joseph Shrine Church established in 1854 .   This monument was constructed in honor of those who lost their lives during this tragic period and in recognition of those that were able to emigrate to America.   Annually the Ladies and Men’s Ancient Order of Hibernians hold a memorial mass in September at the monument.  Please join your fellow Hibernians on Sept 21, 2025  at 2 PM.
